The most recent information released on the availability of the FAFSA application is that the application will be available on or about December 31. The application process has been revised and is expected to simplify applying for financial aid for most families. One significant change to FAFSA filing is that small business and family farm assets are no longer exempt from reporting for FAFSA purposes. Families may want to speak with their tax preparer in order to be ready to complete the FAFSA when it becomes available. Completion of the FAFSA is required to receive government sponsored student and parent loans. Proof of FAFSA application filing is often a requirement of scholarship applications.
